The last thing Marlborough High Street needs is a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights which would have a negative impact on the street scene (proposed at a meeting of Marlborough Town Council) Any crossing would lose us at least eight parking spaces which are needed to keep the High Street a viable area for retail business.
The High Street is over six hundred yards long and any crossing would be a long way away from the other ends of the street.
Wiltshire Council have provided crossing refuges along the length which have improved the safety of pedestrians who wish to cross the street.
The 20 mph limit in the street has also helped.
I speak as an eighty-year-old High Street resident who has been crossing this street for many years.
Please do not clutter our High Street up any more than it is already!
