Four young gymnasts from a Swindon club will appear in a new BBC TV show this week.

Children from Evoke Gymnastics are going to appear in daily episodes of BBC Gym Stars from Monday as the programme follows their journey to last year's British Championships and showcases their skills in front of amazed audiences.

Camera crews filmed coach Nikita Sukhanov, 16-year-old Lydia Mulvey, 12-year-old Jessica Flay, 15-year-old Kailen Hardy-Heavens, and 11-year-old Ruby Wyatt from September to January after the broadcaster chose Evoke as one of the clubs to feature in the show's fifth series.

Lydia's mum Samantha helps to manage the club.

She said: "This will do great things for the club and the gymnasts, they were absolutely ecstatic.

"A few years ago, they went to meet Gym Stars from an earlier series and were in complete awe of their idols, so this feels like a wonderful full circle moment where they are the Gym Stars now.

"We're glad that Acro is being featured in the programme again this series, it's a hugely growing discipline in gymnastics."

Their acrobatic and rhythmic gymnastics club delivers sessions from more than 400 children in the area from recreational to elite levels.

The club has had to overcome several hurdles in recent years, mainly about its location - it originally started at the Oasis Leisure Centre in 2019 and then had to find a new home once the leisure centre shut during lockdown - and get their equipment out of the closed facility.

Evoke moved to Dorcan Recreation Complex, then to Croft Leisure Centre, then back to Dorcan, and is now finalising plans for its own premises in South Marston.

Samantha added: "Despite the difficult challenges and lacking some of the equipment that their competitors have while training at an elite level, our gymnasts have overcome adversity to be amongst the best in the country, which is astonishing.

"Their coach is amazing, they work so hard and deserve the best.

"We have a hugely loyal group of people supporting us who have followed us from place to place, we're fundraising for new equipment, and will hopefully have our own premises soon.

"This feels like the start of a new era for the club."
