Wiltshire Police has referred itself to the police watchdog over the discovery of a body in relation to the search of a man who has been missing for weeks.

The force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and asked its Professional Standards Department to review its actions following the discovery of a body in the search for Bradley Porter.

The 25 year-old was reported missing after leaving an address at Penhill Drive on August 6.

The Adver first reported on his disappearance four days later, and the force said it was investigating.

But it was not until August 18 - 12 days after he first disappeared - that they issued a public appeal on their social media channels.

On Sunday, September 17 the police announced that they had found a body at Elgin Industrial Estate.

Wiltshire Police released a statement on Monday, September 18 stating that detectives believe that there are no suspicious circumstances following the discovery of the body.

Although formal identification of the body has not yet been made, Bradley’s family has been updated on the situation.

Detective Inspector Deb Hatch said: “My thoughts, and those of the investigating team, are very much with Bradley’s next of kin as they come to terms with this very sad development.

“Bradley’s family are being supported at this time by specially trained officers.”
