There was plenty of success for Swindon Harriers athletes at the Midland Counties Indoor championships at Loughborough University this weekend.
Amelia Brandon became the pentathlon champion at the event, with a club record point score of 3,031, beating Katherine Silto at Cheltenham in July 2000, although it is unlikely to stand as the record as the event did not conclude with the 800 metres as the track is made purely for sprinting.
The 22-year-old is in her final year of studying psychology at Loughborough and proved to be the best on the day across the five events.
Brandon said: “My goal for the weekend was to get 3,000 points so I’m super happy that I managed to achieve that.
“Perhaps I’ll have to have a go at the event outdoors.”
Brandon’s 3,031 score comprised the following marks: 60m (8.39secs/732pts); 60H: 9.76 (758); H: 1.45 (566); LJ: 4.80m (506) & SP: 8.79 (451).
There was more success for other Swindon Harriers athletes as Laila-Jae Belgrave and Oakley Hogan both won silver medals.
Belgrave came second in the under-17 women’s shot with a throw of 10.36 metres and Hogan recorded an indoor personal best of 10.18 metres in the under-15 boy’s shot.
