New data has revealed Swindon as the dog-loving capital of the UK.

A study carried out by Waggel used data of the population of dogs and compared it with the population of humans to find the ratio.

Swindon had the highest rate in the cities category, despite being a town. The areas featuring on the list all boast a population of more than 100,000.

There are 316.48 dogs per 1,000 people in Swindon - almost a third.

Second place for the highest amount of dogs per people was Chester with 274 and third was Hereford with 271.

When describing why the town ranked so highly, a spokesperson for Waggel said: “Nestled in the picturesque county of Wiltshire, Swindon offers a perfect blend of urban convenience and natural beauty.

“With spaces like Queen's Park, Lydiard Park and Coate Water Country Park, Swindon provides a tranquil retreat for dog owners seeking outdoor adventures.

“The pet-friendly cafes, pubs, and accommodation options reflect Swindon's commitment to fostering a welcoming environment for pets and their owners.”
