A popular Cornish pasty shop has opened its second branch in Helston today – and it’s ‘dinky’.
The Cornish Oven ‘Dinky’ is now open at St Johns Business Park, and is essentially a smaller version of its main shop in Clodgey Lane – although the pasties haven’t shrunk.
According to The Cornish Oven: “Our new Helston ‘Dinky’ pasty shop is just that. Small but perfectly formed.
“Because we love Helston so much, we felt we wanted to spread the love and open a new ‘Dinky’ pasty shop on the west side of town.
“The St Johns Business Park is a great location for those heading to or from Porthleven, Penrose, Breage, Ashton and surrounding areas.
“We may not have everything in the ‘Dinky’ pasty shop, but rest assured we will do our very best to meet your needs.
“Thank you for being a ‘Dinky customer’.”
It went on add: “Don’t worry, it’s not the pasties that are Dinky!”
In charge of the ‘Dinky’ store are manager Kate Pearson, who will spread her time between the new shop and the original Helston one, and assistant manager Sarah Boldan who will be there full time.
The shop held a soft opening today (Wednesday) with a steady flow of customers through the day.
They have two weeks to build up to Flora Day, on May 8, when the shop will be open right next to the relocated taxi rank and the Penzance Road bus stop, with Kate joking: “I think that will the day we say ‘Hello world!’”
Customers who head down over the next three days, however, have the chance to win a pasty a week for a year, simply by entering their name and telephone number into the draw, which ends on Friday.
The Cornish Oven Dinky will be open seven days a week, with its opening hours as 7.30am to 3pm Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm Saturday and 10am to 3pm Sunday.
In addition to its range of steak, chicken and vegetarian pasties the shop also sells a wide cake selection with doughnuts, tiffin, brownies and rocky road, as well as filled rolls and sandwiches, pasta salads, crisps, and hot and cold drinks.
It is the latest store for owner Giles Williams, who opened his first Cornish Oven shop 25 years ago this year.
The company, celebrating its 25th anniversary, now has branches in Penzance, Camborne, Pool, Scorrier, Hayle, Illogan, Newquay and of course Helston.
