The following cases were heard at Swindon Magistrates' Court this week.

FRESHBROOK: Barrie Barnett, of Crawford Close, has been sentenced for drugs offences.

The 34-year-old indicated pleas of guilty to cultivating two cannabis plants and possessing some of the Class B drug on March 7, 2024.

He has been fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 in court costs plus £32 to fund victim services.

The illegal drugs have been forfeited and destroyed.

SWINDON: Romas Taucenkas, of Padstow Road, has been sentenced for driving offences.

The 46-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Nissan X-Trail along Cartwright Drive while disqualified, drunk, and without insurance on April 7, 2024.

When breathalysed, he had 107 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – more than three times the legal limit.

He has been disqualified from driving for 48 months – four years - and must pay a £200 fine plus £85 in court costs and £114 to fund victim services, as well as carry out six months of alcohol treatment and up to 20 rehabilitation activity days.

TOOTHILL: Ricky Simmonds, of Stamford Close, has been sentenced for possessing an offensive weapon.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to having a knuckle duster at an address in Redhouse on April 8, 2024.

He has been fined £466 and must pay £85 in court costs plus £186 to fund victim services.

The handheld weapon has been forfeited and destroyed.

OLD TOWN: Jeremy Van Der Sanden, of Dewell Mews, has been sentenced for failing to comply with notification requirements of the sex offenders register.

The 29-year-old indicated a guilty plea to failing without reasonable excuse to comply with the notification requirements by not providing correct usernames for TikTok and Discord social media accounts between April 18 and 24, 2024.

He received a community order that requires him to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work and up to 10 rehabilitation activity days, as well as pay £85 in court costs plus £114 to fund victim services.

CORSHAM: Andrew Moores, of Ludmead Road, has been sentenced for dangerous driving.

The 58-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Vauxhall Insignia dangerously on the B4069 Sutton Benger on March 17, 2024.

He received a 12-month driving ban and a £2,500 fine and must also pay £85 in court costs plus £1,000 to fund victim services.

GRANGE PARK: Ervin Cerpia, of Mulcaster Avenue, has been sentenced for possessing Class A drugs.

The 31-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to having cocaine in Swindon on October 9, 2023.

He must pay a £1,200 fine as well as £85 in court costs plus £480 to fund victim services. The illegal substance has been forfeited and destroyed.

SWINDON: Darren Harper, of Garnet Crescent, has been sentenced for assault by beating of an emergency service worker.

The 57-year-old indicated a plea of guilty to hitting a police officer on April 6, 2024, and received a £120 fine and must also pay £100 in compensation plus £85 in court costs as well as £48 to fund victim services.

STRATTON: Ilysha de Freitas, of Carman Close, has been sentenced for theft from a shop.

The 34-year-old pleaded guilty to stealing a £100 DVD box set from HMV in Swindon on September 5, 2023.

The defendant must pay £50 in compensation.

TOOTHILL: Trevor Bateman, of Oakham Close, has been sentenced for drug driving.

The 66-year-old pleaded guilty to driving a Volkswagen Golf along Swinley Drive in Peatmoor on November 3, 2023, when the proportion of a controlled drug, namely Benzoylecgonine in his blood - namely greater than 200 micrograms of drug per litre of blood - exceeded the specified limit.

He has been banned from driving for 12 months, fined £200, and ordered to pay £85 in court costs as well as £80 to fund victim services.
