The use of a car park at Supermarine Sports Club to train young people to ride motorcycles and scooters has been refused permission.
William Rodwell who runs Lightning Motorcycle Training had applied to be able to use the overflow car park to the south of the rugby pitch as a training ground for new riders.
The short application for permission said: “This car park sees minimal use during the proposed periods of use.
"Both the overflow (the proposed area) and the main car park are only fully utilised during major events or rugby matches.
"The licence agreement does not permit use of the proposed area on such days."
The council’s highways officer said there were no objections in principle to the use of the site but added there was a need for further information “relating to the intended operation, how classes would be conducted and the types of classes offered.
The application added: “Additionally, information regarding class size, instructor or student ratio, number of classes operating at any one time, overlap or interval on consecutive classes and the time duration of classes are required to allow me to adequately assess the proposals of this application.”
That lack of information was cited in the notice of refusal of the application.
