MOST people are used to being woken by an alarm clock but Pinehurst resident Deanna Reeves has been getting a different kind of wake up call – and she’s fed up with it.

Deanna, of Pinehurst Road, and her parents claim they have had their sleep disturbed for months after allotment holders at Pickards Field started keeping cockerels on the site.

In allotment rules it states that a tenant must not keep any animals or livestock of any kind on the allotment, except hens and rabbits.

Deanna, 36, has now complained to Swindon Council of noise nuisance and anti-social behaviour by the allotment tenants.

The problem was first reported to the council in November last year.

And, after a site inspection, cockerels were removed from the site by the holders.

But Deanna claims the problems started again in March.

“The cockerels on the site have returned,” said Deanna, who is a carer for her parents.

“We are being woken by this noise at around 6am when dawn breaks and the noise is only going to get earlier as we move into the summer.

“My parents have lived here for 79 years and have never had any problems with the allotments but this is ridiculous.

“They deserve to have a peaceful retirement without being woken so early in the morning by cockerels.

“We are aware that the site has been visited by the council but I have video evidence of them and I want the council to take more aggressive actions in rectifying this problem.

“We are aware there is also a cockerel present at a residential property on Pinehurst Road, but we know that the problem is coming from the allotments.

“We have no problems with the allotment holders but something more has to be done to enforce what is the law.”

The council has written to the allotment holders requesting that the cockerels are removed.

A council spokesman said: “We have inspected Pickards Field on three separate occasions and could not find any evidence of any cockerels.”
