FIREFIGHTERS helped free a springer spaniel that was trapped in some barbed wire on Tuesday morning.
Trowbridge fire crew members were called out to a field in Hinton Charterhouse, near Freshford, to free the poor animal at 10.15am.
After trekking through a field and woodland, the firefighters found the dog's ear was caught up in the barbed wire and needed to be cut free.
The crews used bolt croppers to free the springer spaniel, who did not appear to be hurt.
The dog was reunited with its owner not long after 11.15am.
Trowbridge fire station crew manager, Joel Bailey, said: "We were called to rescue a springer spaniel that was trapped in barbed wire in Hinton Charterhouse.
"We walked about a mile with our equipment across a field and woodland where we found the owner and the dog.
"It was trapped by its ear so we released it with our bolt croppers. The dog was a bit shaken up but it was okay thankfully."
A rescue unit from Bedminster Fire Station was also called to the scene but it was not needed.
