PLAYER-COACH David Colclough says his Swindon Shock side took plenty of confidence despite their first league defeat of the season.

After a faultless start to the 2018/19 programme, with three wins across the National Shield, Cup and National League Division Three South, Shock came unstuck against a strong London BC Medelynas.

A huge total of 106 points wasn’t enough to prevent defeat for Shock, who narrowly lost out 108-106 in London.

Ed Potter's immense point scoring run continued with 34 this weekend, in addition to 26 from Antonio Wilburn.

Colclough revealed that the majority of their counterparts' players have vast experience at Division One level, meaning he was more than happy with the display his players turned in.

“It was back and forth. They got the better of us at certain points in the game,” he said

“We had a meltdown in the third quarter where we let them score 14 straight points from turnovers.

“It wasn’t like they earned the points, we were giving them to them.

“So I called a time-out and at the end of the quarter I realised we’d scored 22 points each.

“But the first half was so bad in the third quarter, that we just couldn’t get back in the game and it was the same in the fourth quarter too.

“We had a conversation at the end. No one was disappointed because we all played well offensively, there are just a few things we can do defensively to tidy up.

“They were London Lithuanian United from Division One, they just didn’t want to pay the fee to stay up so they’re working their way back up.

“So we just played even with them at their own place. We forced them to call time outs and we forced them to play until the very end which was nice.”

Next up for Shock is a visit from local rivals Oxford Brookes University at Swindon New College on Saturday, before facing Barking Abbey in the Mens National Cup.
