BAKERS Arms boss Pete Smith praised the spirit of his players after they made it back-to-back wins with a 7-0 victory over FC Abbeymeads to make progress in the Swindon Advertiser Cup.

After suffering a shock defeat to Ruby Removals at home two weeks ago, Bakers Arms have shown good character to retaliate with two straight victories.

Bakers continue to make their mark in the in the Swindon & District League as they increased their impressive goals tally at the weekend, scoring for the 20th time in seven games.

Larrson Smith got his first goal for the club alongside fellow substitute Vladimir Bendich.

Daniel Hiscocks converted a good free-kick and Ashton Glover and Philip Kumar bagged a brace each.

Manager Smith said: “I’m happy with how things are going again.

“We are still waiting to get our full team back, but that is the reason we have a big squad.

“We were missing about six or seven players but it meant some of the squad players played a couple of minutes.

“Larrson is only a 16-year-old and he scored at the weekend.

“I think the game was a little bit out of reach for Abbeymeads, they didn’t have a shot on goal in 90 minutes.

“They’re a good team, they are well-organised, but I just think that they are a bit of a young team, that is all.

“We were completely dominant and even I managed to play 90 minutes

“Conor Waldon was away at the weekend, but that just shows how deep our squad is because we managed to score seven.

“Conor is playing well below his level but he is a good player. He’s always up for it and he finds football easy."

Fellow Premier Division side Wheatsheaf Stratton suffered a shock 5-3 defeat to Blunsdon in the cup after the two teams could not be separated during normal time.

With the game poised at 2-2 after 90 minutes, it was Division One side Blunsdon outfit who prevailed to book their place in the next round.

The game between Kintbury Rangers Reserves and Ruby Removals also finished 5-3, with the former taking the win.

Two home goals weren’t enough for Redhouse to progress after they were beaten 4-2 by FC Dorcan.

Stratton Juniors turned in a five-star display to dispatch North Swindon WMC 5-1.
