SWINDON made it three draws in a row in the Verde Recreo League Championship when they held hosts Truro 1-1 at the weekend – becoming the first team to avoid defeat to the Cornwall club this term.

After a lengthy trip south, the visitors got off to a poor start and were soon behind following a short corner.

The initial drag flick was well stopped by goalkeeper Alan Gough, but the rebound fell nicely for a Truro forward, who batted it home first time.

Swindon recovered well and grew into the game, creating opportunities before levelling the scores before the break.

Rob Riddell’s free hit found Tom Wickens high on the left and, with his back to goal, he played a square pass for Thomas Gillingham to run onto. Gillingham showed a good turn of pace to drive forward and smash the ball low beyond the keeper.

Swindon continued to put pressure on their hosts, creating opportunities that Wickens, Henry Cheney, Dave James and Phil Scarisbrick failed to convert.

At the other end, the defence held firm, with skipper Tom Goldsmith particularly to the fore as the visitors claimed an impressive draw.

Swindon A were unable to turn around their fortunes in Central Two as they suffered a 3-0 loss at home to Mendip A to remain without a win from six matches this term.

With no action for the first team, Swindon Ladies A took centre stage at the weekend but suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Team Bath Buccaneers 4.
