EVERY day 6,000 people become carers but often it’s not something we’ve planned for. Three in five of us will need to look after a loved one and become a carer at some point in our lives. It can happen at any time and have a huge impact on a person’s life, not only affecting them, but the whole family.

This Carers Rights Day on Friday, November 30 the focus is on supporting people, with the theme Caring for Your Future

Carer Support Wiltshire will be hosting two webinars to help carers of all ages navigate the challenges around work and finances when looking after a loved one. The webinars will provide practical hints, tips and information on applying for jobs, returning to work and managing budgets.

They will be run by Ruth Weal and Gabby Orchison from the Zurich Employee Volunteering Programme and have been drawn up in response to the needs of the young adult carers the team worked with earlier in the year.

Young adult carers between the ages of 18 and 25 face an uncertain future when they leave education and the Zurich team held a workshop at their headquarters in Swindon to help build their confidence and equip them with the skills needed to enter the workplace.

Young adult carer Danielle, who has been a carer for more than four years and hasn’t had a job interview in over six years, spoke about how she wanted to gain confidence and learn tips and tricks to make her CV stand out.

“Having a mentor for employment stuff means so much to me. I can’t wait to get started,” she said.

You don’t have to be a carer to take part. The webinars are open to all. To take part visit the Carer Support Wiltshire Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/carerswiltshire/
