MALMESBURY Victoria joint-manager Josh Langley says the aim for this season is to get promoted to the Hellenic League Premier Division despite former boss Kevin Bridgeman stepping down last week.

Langley has been with Malmesbury for most of his career, but a serious injury forced him to stop playing a year ago and now the 21-year-old has turned his attention to helping new joint-manager Andy Wicks achieve promotion from Division One West.

“We are 100 per cent going for promotion, there is no doubt about it,” said Langley.

“On our day, we can beat anyone.

“The league, for us, is one that we should be winning or at least gaining promotion from.”

Langley and Wicks were re-united after the surprise departure of Bridgeman last week, and the youngster believes the new management team are a recipe for success.

“When Kevin announced he was resigning, he told the club that he wanted me to take over, but due to lack of experience, I went to Andy for help,” said Langley.

“He was there with me for the last four of five games of last season and he put a lot of points across with what he wanted to do and they were very similar to me.

“We both feed off each other, we both agree with what we want to do.

“Team selection-wise, he lets me get on with it, but when I come to show him the team, he will always have some views he wants to put across.

“But on a matchday, he is the main man.”

Vics picked up a 2-1 Floodlit Cup win over Easington Sports in the pair’s first game in charge last Tuesday and are looking forward to their first league game together away at Clanfield on Saturday.

That is a match Langley is fully confident his team should take all three points from.

He said: “Clanfield have always been a team that work hard. They will pick up results here and there, but personally, I believe they are a team that we should be beating.

“They are a team that will work hard for each other, but when they come up against a team that are better than, them they will just try and play for a draw.

“On Saturday, we should be leaving there with three points.”

Malmesbury’s Division One West rivals New College have no game this weekend.

Meanwhile, in the Premier Division, Fairford Town travel to Bishops Cleeve, while Royal Wootton Basset Town host Ardley United.

Shrivenham Town will look to move away from the relegation places when they take on Lydney Town at Barrington Park.
