DOWN Ampney manager Paul Beechey says his side’s superior team spirit was crucial to their shock 6-2 Swindon Advertiser Cup win away at Division One side Ramsbury at the weekend, writes JONATHAN LEIGHFIELD.

Matthew Tyson and Callum Higginson both scored a brace of goals, with Yunus Ali and David Tomlinson completing the scoring for the Division Two outfit.

Manager Beechey said: “I went and watched Ramsbury the week before and noticed they played 4-4-2, so I set out a game plan to suit us.

“We went with three up top and three in midfield and it worked really well. We scored a couple of early goals, they started arguing and we went from there.

“We had a really good team spirit, that was spot on. Everyone was up for the game and we knew we could win if we played to our best, which we did.

“At one stage, I thought that they (Ramsbury) were going to get back into the game. It was 3-1 early on in the second half and they pulled another one back.

"I saw a couple of heads go down but some of the other lads geed them up again and we managed to score another two quick goals.

“Ramsbury kept coming forward late on and then we caught them on the break to get the sixth. It was a really good team performance."

Elsewhere in the Adver Cup, the shocks continued as Division One side Blunsdon put eight past Premier Division side Swindon Supermarine Development, an 8-3 victory sealing their passage through to the quarter-finals.
