SWINDON Supermarine leapfrogged struggling Frome Town and lifted themselves clear of relegation threatened Dorchester Town tonight when beating the Robins 2-1 at Badgers Hill.

Lee Spalding’s troops came from behind to put an end to their four-game Evo-Stik South Premier Division South winless run, which stretched back to mid-October.

Marine are now three points clear of the drop zone having secured 16 points from as many games.

Tonight's game started well for Marine as Matt Williams headed just wide from a corner with 15 minutes played after Bradley Gray’s initial chance was deflected wide.

Jamie Edge followed up Williams’ effort with a chance of his own, but again his shot was directed wide as Frome weathered an early storm.

Hard work was undone on 25 minutes though as Danny Greaves’ Frome Town took the lead through Kriss Miller, who pounced on Will Henry’s initial save to put the home side ahead.

Any thoughts of Supermarine slipping to a potential fifth successive loss were cast aside momentarily as Ryan Campbell equalised for the visitors with seven minutes remaining in the opening half.

Campbell slotted his low effort beyond Frome goalkeeper Carey’s reach with a strike from the edge of the box.

The goal injected life into Spalding’s men prior to the half-time whistle, however that didn’t stop Frome enjoying the better start in the second 45.

Kane Simpson went close in the half’s opening minutes before Bradley Gray was substituted after going down with an injury.

A free-kick on the edge of the D was then hit straight into Will Henry, and the wasted opportunity hurt Frome – who minutes later went behind.

Conor McDonagh took advantage of a rejected penalty appeal from the hosts to counter attack and fire Marine into the lead.

From there, Spalding’s men held their nerve to secure a vital three points.

Marine are next in action a week tonight when making the trip south to face Poole Town.
