SWINDON Supermarine manager Lee Spalding says there will be nothing straight-forward about his side’s quest to reach the Wiltshire Senior Cup semi-finals when they host lower league Melksham Town this evening.

Despite being in different divisions, only eight league places separate the two sides at present, with Marine enduring a tricky start to life in Southern League Premier Division and in the lower reaches of the table, while Melksham are riding high in the play-off places in Division One South.

Kieran Baggs will bring his Melksham troops to the Webbswood Stadium for this evening’s quarter-final clash on the back of an emphatic 3-0 league win over Barnstaple Town at the weekend, while Marine are out for a response after going down 3-1 at Chesham United.

With Marine’s league form far from what they would have wanted so far this term, the Wiltshire Senior Cup can provide them with a welcome shot in the arm.

Spalding, therefore, is keen to make the most of the opportunity that is ahead of his side, although knows that nothing can be taken for granted against in-form opposition.

“We learned a lot from Saturday’s defeat up at Chesham and now we look forward to the game on Tuesday where we will try to make sure we put that disappointing result right,” said Spalding.

“Melksham are a good side. I know quite a few of their players and they have got some very good ones in their squad.

“It won’t be a game where we can just turn up and expect them to roll over – Melksham will want to come to us and prove a point.

“They are having a good season in the league below and they will want to put in a good performance to get a result against a team in a higher league.

“We are going to have to make sure we are right at it and we will need an improved performance from what we had on Saturday in order to get a result.

“We want to make sure we get back to winning ways as soon as possible to put right what we didn’t do right at Chesham.”

Elsewhere, Royal Wootton Bassett Town travel to Windsor in the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup.

Fairford Town go on the road to Malmesbury Victoria in the same competition.
