BROCKHILL United manager John Underhill says he wants his team to keep the momentum rolling into 2019 after their first win of the season in Division Two of the Swindon & District League against second-placed Swindon AFC.

Dion Titcombe opened the scoring for the bottom side before Nathan Harris doubled their advantage before half-time.

Swindon scored early in the second half to set up a nervy finish, but Brockhill held on for a 2-1 victory to gain their first three points of the season at the 11th attempt.

Manager Underhill felt his side battled for 90 minutes and fully deserved to come out on top.

He said: “It was a hard-fought victory. The boys were a lot more hungry than the opposition. We had the passion and the boys fought hard and deserved the win.

“It was just amazing. Everyone was buzzing, everyone was happy. We didn’t let the rain and the cold weather get to us and it’s just an amazing feeling.

“I think we always have that underdog feeling. Since I took over as manager at the start of the season, it’s been quite a big challenge to try and build a team spirit and build the momentum, but now we’ve got that, we want to keep pushing and keep the winning streak alive.

“We had a draw in the previous game, so we haven’t lost in a couple of weeks. We want to keep the momentum going in 2019 and see what we can do for the rest of the season.”

Elsewhere in Division Two, Spectrum downed Priory Vale 2-0 at home to stay fourth, while Down Ampney and FC Abbeymeads shared the points following a 1-1 draw.

In Division One, a rejuvenated Swindon Centurians also recorded their first win of the season after a 7-4 success over North Swindon WMC, while Highworth Town Development put 12 goals past Sportz Central, leapfrogging them into fourth with a 12-0 victory.

Meanwhile, in the Premier Division, Ruby Removals put nine goals without reply past struggling Lower Stratton to strengthen their position at the top of the table in a round of full fixtures.

Ashton Keynes kept up the pressure on the leaders with a nine-goal haul of their own. The title challengers made short work of winless Marlborough Town Reserves, beating them 9-1 at Elcot Lane.

Third-place Bakers Arms recorded their fifth league win of the season with a 5-2 victory over the inconsistent Wheatsheaf Stratton, while Stratton Juniors slipped to a 2-1 defeat against Swindon Supermarine Development as Juniors missed the chance to consolidate second spot.
