SWINDON Supermarine manager Lee Spalding says his side must concentrate on themselves if they are to come out on top against in-form Dorchester Town in Southern League Premier Division South tonight.

Spalding’s men head to Dorset to take on a Dorchester side that have scored 10 goals in their last two games, but Marine will be confident in front of goal themselves, having put five past Basingstoke Town on Saturday.

Marine could be excused for feeling extra-confident ahead of tonight’s game as Dorchester have only won once on their own artificial surface all season – a 2-1 win over Hartley Wintney back in September.

Spalding is wary of a repeat performance of the one that saw Dorchester sweep Staines Town aside 6-1 a week ago, but says his own side must continue to play their brand of passing football, no matter the opposition’s form.

Spalding said: “I watched Dorchester play Staines and they’re a good footballing side. They’ve got a few good forward players who are quick and there are lots of other threats, but I think at this level, it’s more important to focus on what we do and the way we play.

“We need to cause them problems and then make sure we’re organised in the transition from losing the ball to getting back into shape.

“Things like that are very important at this level, but we’ve definitely got the players in the team who can cause problems to other teams.

“No games are easy in this league, so it’s a case of making sure we turn up, we do it right and it’s more of the same from Saturday.”

Spalding was delighted with his side’s second-half performance against Basingstoke on Saturday and has urged his players to utilise their style of football to wear opposition teams down.

He said: “It’s important we use the momentum of Saturday and play the same football – get the ball down, pass it and move teams around.

“The longer we’ve got the ball, the more we move teams around and the harder it is for them when they win the ball back because they’ll be tired from chasing us.

“It’s really important that we learn from that win. If we do, I think we’ll cause teams problems at this level because we’ve got good players.”
