GREYHOUND were unable to strengthen their position at the top of the Division One table as the Swindon Sunday League resumed its programme following the festive break.

The league leaders were held to a 1-1 draw away at FC Walcot in their first match since mid-December.

At the other end of the table, the new year marked a new dawn for bottom side Highworth Town Sunday as they earned a first league victory of the campaign in a 3-2 success away at Woodlands Edge.

Will Miller was the hero for Highworth with a brace of goals, with Dominic Stagg also on target for the visitors.

Stratton Saints continue to set the pace in Division Two and stretched their unbeaten start to 10 games with a battling 4-2 victory at home to Cricklade Park Rangers.

Will Hooton, Paul Johnson, James Joyce and Jamie Stones all scored for Saints as Matt Rose got both Cricklade goals.

Chiseldon Sunday are Stratton’s nearest challengers, and extended their own unbeaten streak in the league with a 3-0 success away at Gorse Hill Borough.

Samuel Long scored all three goals for Chiseldon, who are six points behind the leaders but have two games in hand.

SWR found their shooting boots early in 2019 as they romped to a thumping 13-1 victory on the road at Lydiard in Division Three.

They remain in second place, three points behind leaders PSV Swindon following an equally one-sided 5-0 win for the table toppers at home to bottom side The Abbey Mead.

However, SWR have only dropped two points in nine games this term and have three games in hand on PSV.

Third-placed Openwork United are also only three points off top spot, but hard to work hard to prevent that gap from being extended at the weekend as they battled to a 3-2 win away at fourth-in-the-table Nationwide.

The final league game of the weekend ended all-square as Wroughton Rovers were held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Swindon Rovers.

Elsewhere, Division Two side Purton Red House booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Wiltshire Sunday Cup after a superb 8-3 victory at home to Halfway House Harriers in the third round.
