A heroic police officer rescued a woman from the Kennet & Avon Canal close to Devizes Rugby Club yesterday evening.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: “We were called at 6.50pm last night to reports of a woman in the canal close to the rugby club in Devizes.
“The first officer to arrive jumped into the water and pulled the woman to safety. She was conscious and breathing.
“She was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon as a precaution.”
Fire crews from Devizes Fire Station were also involved in the incident.
