A MUM has thanked people in Bradford on Avon for their support, after bystanders told her autistic son off for picking flowers in the town centre.

Dylan Jacob, seven, who has special needs, picked some of the crocuses in Westbury Gardens and presented them to his mother Emma Poursain.

Other people also waiting at the Town Bridge bus stop nearby made critical comments, which upset her and she went home in tears.

She felt so bad she later pinned up a note of apology from Dylan and left a bunch of carnations near the bus stop.

Ms Poursain, 34, of Elmfield, Bradford on Avon, who has two other children, was cheered after posting details of the incident on local social media and was pleased by the responses. She said: “Thank you all for your amazing support and response regarding my special needs son picking me some flowers.

“I want to raise awareness of autism and special needs. People should not be so quick to judge when they don’t know everything about the child they are criticising.”
