POLITICS students in years 12 and 13 enjoyed an insight into the life of a politician when Chippenham MP Michelle Donelan paid a visit to Hardenhuish School.

The MP, who took the seat in May 2015, gave a talk to the students and answered questions on the routes into politics as a future career.

Her talk, which provided the students with an opportunity to build further on their recent visit to the Houses of Parliament, also highlighted the various functions that Ms Donelan undertook within her constituency and her duties as assistant whip to the Conservative Party.

The students' questions ranged from whether she supported the idea of lowering the voting age to the direction of her future aspirations.

The event was organised by a student, Maya Skelton, who is a member of the Hardenhuish School Parliament and helped promote the experience around school and conduct the questioning.

Curriculum leader for history and politics, Philip Arkinstall, said:

"This was a wonderful way to engage with local and national politics and show students how easy it can be to make change happen in their own country."
