A PENSIONER says she is being deprived of sleep because of delivery lorries calling through the night just a stone’s throw from her back garden.

Lyn Kenney, 71, lives in Allington Way and her home backs on to the new Lidl supermarket off Hungerdown Lane. She can see the store’s delivery dock from her back door, and when the lorries arrive, she says lights shine into her bedroom and she is disturbed by the lorry engines, air brakes and the clatter of trolleys. She says the situation is making life miserable.

“It’s making me very stressed,” she said. “I am waking up thinking I am not going to get any more sleep, and how am I going to get through the day?”

Mrs Kenney’s husband Bob died just 18 months ago and she moved to Chippenham to be closer to her son Steve. She says she was relieved when the disturbance of the building work finished - but had not realised that another problem would take its place.

“My husband died three weeks after we moved here,” she said. “I feel a bit vulnerable without him. We’d been together for 49 years.”

Mrs Kenney has twice visited the store to speak with the manager, but said the night-time deliveries were continuing.

She has also contacted her landlord GreenSquare, and is now keeping track of the delivery times to prove how much her nights are disrupted.

Her son Steve Kenney said: “This is really affecting my mum’s life.”

A spokesman from Lidl said: "We were incredibly sorry to learn of this and would like to sincerely apologise for any disruption caused. We are investigating the matter with our haulier to ensure that delivery times are fully adhered to. Following the opening of the new store we've been delighted by the positive response from the local community, and would like to extend our thanks for their patience and understanding during this early stage of the store's operation.
