CHILDREN from primary schools around Chippenham gathered at the Town Hall to take part in this year's Commonwealth Day.
Soldiers from 9 Regiment RLC based at Buckley Barracks paraded down the High Street to meet the Mayor of Chippenham Cllr Andy Phillips, the Deputy Lieutenant of Wiltshire Dr David Hemery CBE, High Sheriff of Wiltshire Nicky Alberry, and other dignitaries, for a salute and the flag folding ceremony.
Dr Hemery read the message from the Queen and the Commonwealth Affirmation, and the Commonwealth flag was raised at the town hall.
Nine Chippenham schools were represented by a total of 150 pupils, who proceeded to the Neeld for presentations on the cultures of different Commonwealth countries, including a Fijian choir and a Haka dance.
Afterwards, they visited stalls in the town hall, and chatted to soldiers from different countries.
Democracy and civic officer Heather Rae, who organised the event, said members of the public also visited: "Everyone who attended really enjoyed it."
