GOALKEEPER Lawrence Vigouroux will return to Swindon Town’s matchday squad tomorrow at Oldham, almost a month after he last appeared following international commitments and a fallout with manager Richie Wellens. 

Vigouroux travelled west to feature on the bench for Chile in international fixtures against Mexico and the USA before returning to the UK a fortnight ago. 

Wellens claims travel logistics prevented the 25-year-old from featuring in Town’s squad at Bury on March 30. 

But it emerged later in the week that the pair had fallen out after the ‘keeper trained poorly and failed to inform the Town boss, until the Thursday evening, about a funeral he had to attend on the Friday, prior to Morecambe’s visit to the County Ground. 

A meeting between the pair has since been held, where Wellens outlined core team values that he expects all players to meet – stating that failing to do so will result in their absence from the first-team squad. 

Wellens’ assistant manager Noel Hunt revealed Vigouroux is set to return to the team sheet for tomorrow’s trip to Oldham, but didn’t confirm if he will replace Luke McCormick – who has started the last four games. 

“I was on the phone to Lawrence last night, and he will be in the squad tomorrow,” said Hunt. 

“It’s frustrating when you’re not playing, but that’s football. There are more than 11 players on the pitch, and it takes a squad to get promoted.

“Lawrence understands that, and he’s on board. 

“Canice (Carroll) picked up a knock to his shin, and we'll assess that again today. 

“But in terms of the rest of the team, we’re all good.”

Despite Town’s fragile position with regards to their play-off ambitions, Hunt insists there are no nerves in the squad. 

He added: “There are no nerves. Because players should relish these games. 

“We’ve got five games, and we’re the hunters – that’s a different pressure to being hunted. 

“We’ve put ourselves in a great position, and the boys have done really well up until now.”
