SWINDON Supermarine goalkeeper Martin Horsell has signed a one-year contract extension with the Webbswood Stadium outfit to ensure he remains in Wiltshire until May 2020.

Having signed from Hereford FC in January 2019, Horsell went on to feature heavily once Swindon Town stopper Will Henry’s loan had ended, and proved to be a standout player for Lee Spalding’s side as they made a late, yet unsuccessful charge towards the top six.

Marine’s capture of Horsell adds to the other seven players they have agreed terms with; including captain, Stuart Fleetwood, Michael Hopkins, Conor McDonagh, Matt Williams, Mat Liddiard, Jamie Edge and Calvin Dinsley for the 2019/20 season.

With the majority of the non-contract players from last season’s squad also committing to Marine for next season, the club are hopeful of a successful upcoming campaign.

Speaking to Supermarine’s website, chairman Jez Webb said: “I am delighted Martin will be with us next season, he is an excellent keeper who has tasted success in this Division with Hereford and I’m hoping he can do the same with Marine.

“Once again, it’s a real endorsement from these players and clearly shows what an exciting place Supermarine Football Club is to be at.”

Meanwhile, manager Lee Spalding said: “I have already quoted that the club has made a huge commitment in signing the first seven players on contract and this is another a massive step for the club in securing the services of a very good goalkeeper.

“The management team are over whelmed with the support of the chairman for making this huge commitment.”
