SWINDON Primary Schools F.A. held their annual finals day at Millbrook Primary School on Saturday.

The day featured three boys matches with the Plate, Shield and Boys’ Cup up for grabs, and the Girls’ Cup Final.

In the Plate final, Ruskin faced Even Swindon, and it was the latter who took the lead through Gabb only for Dixon to volley in Ruskin’s equaliser in the second half.

Dixon put Ruskin ahead before Bickerton secured the Plate for the Upper Stratton school.

The Shield final was an all North League affair between Abbey Meads and St. Leonard’s C.E., Blunsdon.

Abbey Meads went ahead after an error by the St. Leonard’s goalie allowed Dos Santos to score.

No further goals were scored in the second half, despite both teams creating plenty of chances, and Abbey Meads won the trophy for the first time.

In the Girls’ Cup, Abbey Meads and Tregoze were locked in a tight affair which looked to be heading towards extra-time, only for Tregoze to score twice in quick succession late on to secure victory.

Two schools from the East League – Covingham Park and Goddard Park – met in the Cup final and the team from Park North took the lead when Gray capitalised on a goalkeeping error.

O’Reilly levelled for Covingham Park in the second half and with no further goals in the remaining normal or extra-time periods, penalties were required to settle the tie.

Covingham Park missed their first two kicks and Goddard Park went on to win 3-2, lifting the Cup for the very first time.

“It was a brilliant day and a superb way to end our season. All the players should feel proud of their performance, regardless of the result”, said Steve Beale, secretary of Swindon P.S.F.A.

“They have all represented the schools admirably and I hope they will remember this day for many years to come.”
