SWINDON teenage race ace Elliot Pinson showed his potential in the latest round of the British Talent Cup at Donington Park last weekend.

With a bevy of achievements to his name – including third place in the 2018 British Junior Supersport series, first place in the 2016 ACU Team Green Junior Cup and various wins in the Cool Fab series – Pinson is a talent to watch.

The British Talent Cup allows exciting and talented young riders to race each other on standard Honda NSF250R Moto3 bikes and is a stepping-stone towards MotoGP.

Pinson had a difficult start to the 2019 season, crashing out at Silverstone with a shoulder injury, but physiotherapy and hard work saw him back ready to race in time for Donington.

In a crowded field of more than 20 riders, the 16-year-old found early pace, finishing ninth and eighth in the two free practice sessions.

He improved his pace to qualify ninth in a time of 1min 15.081secs.

Pinson finished 11th in race one and followed that with seventh placed in tricky conditions in race two to collect 14 championship points from the round.

“I feel positive that I finished both races after my Silverstone experience,” said Pinson.

“My shoulder was fine and gave me no problems. I had the pace to run at the front, but it didn’t quite work out.

“I had good pace, but I wasn’t that consistent overall. I messed up the start in race one and the front group got away.

“In race two, I competed with the second group and couldn’t get near the first group. I got shoved out wide in the last chicane on the second lap and had to play catch-up without burning up the tyres. I caught up, but had no time to gain places.

“Looking ahead, I’m pretty confident. I finished third in last year’s Supersport series despite missing the opening round.

“In the past, I’ve beaten the current Supersport front-runners, so I’m feeling positive about the rest of the season.

“I’d like to thank my dad for helping me out, sorting out the bike and organizing the set-up. Thanks also to Cool Milk.”

Pinson will next take to the track at Knockhill in the British Junior Supersport series from June 28-30.
