DARREN Scott won the annual Godfrey Hargreaves & Chris Ayris Memorial Fishing Match last weekend.

In total, 34 anglers lined the bank of the River Thames at Clanfield on July 7, competing in memory of two fine anglers and Swindon businessmen.

The draw took place at 8am, with the anglers fishing from 10am to 3pm in a bid to win the trophy, kindly donated to event organisers Clanfield Angling by Ayris’ son Vince.

Scott emerged victorious with a haul weighing 9lb 14oz to beat runner-up Doug Foreshew, who totalled 8lb 15oz.

Brian Ballard was third on 6lb 14oz, narrowly ahead of Frank Humphries in fourth with 6lb 13oz.

Following the weigh-in, competitors and organisers returned to the Talbot Hotel in Bampton for a social gathering.
