SWINDON’S Ben Fox has been included in the Great Britain squad for 2019 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships.

Fox and the rest of the GB squad have been busy at selection camps over the last few weeks as coaches Haj Bhania and Steve Caine honed in on their final 15-man group for the competition in Poland, which runs from August 30 to September 8.

Fox will be making his international senior team debut at the event, with the 23-year-old having previously claimed world championship glory with GB at junior level.

Fox’s inclusion represents an impressive recovery after he took time out of the programme in 2018 for major surgery.

Great Britain head coach Bhania said: “As a team, we are in a very good place.

“The last year has been incredible for the GB team and demonstrated what we are capable of. However, by no means has it allowed us to sit still.

“We are only as good as our next game, and as a squad we fundamentally understand this.

“This team has been relentless in their determination to push forwards and improve as individuals but also as a team.

“In Hamburg, we laid bare that championships are won by the team, not just one player.”

Great Britain begin their world championship schedule against Italy on August 31.

They also play group games against Switzerland, Austria, Poland and Germany before the knockout stages.
