TROWBRIDGE’S Chris Oliver was in the thick of the action when the fifth round of the NG Road Race Championships took place at Pembrey in Wales last weekend.

Riding his The Garage-backed R1 Yamaha, Oliver competed in the Metzeler DTR 1300cc Streetstock races and notched up a pair of second places in his first two races behind Daniel Boucher.

The third race saw a three-way duel between the duo and Jon Wright, with Oliver claiming the lead in the closing stages to win by just 0.030secs.

Oliver also set the fastest lap of the race in a time of 1min 1.36secs and a speed of 85.41mph.

The Trowbridge racer was also amongst the front-runners in the 1300cc Newcomers race, where he finished second behind Boucher.

The performance was enough to see Oliver crowned NG Road Racing 1300cc Newcomer champion with one round still to go.

Another local competitor returning to the grid at the meeting was Broughton Gifford's Travis Vince, who competed in the National 250GP and NG Cup Class races on his TZ 250cc Yamaha.

He notched up three podium finishes from three races, coming home third in his opener before bettering that to second in each of the next two.

The third race featured a thrilling duel with current NG Cup championship leader Nigel Palmer, with the pair exchanging places throughout the contest.

Vince had the consolation of the fastest NG Cup lap of the race in a time of 1min 3.83secs and a speed of 82.11mph.
