KINGTON St Michael has held its first Best Allotment competition. Three judges, Rick Squires, Luanne Cullinane and Gary Seward, had the unenviable task of deciding which of the thirty beautifully presented plots in the centre of the village should walk away with the trophies.

Judging took place in the morning and a consensus was reached after much deliberation. All the allotment holders were invited to a barbecue on the site in the evening for the presentation.

Long term allotmenteers, Barry and Jenny Hayne, were rewarded for their hard work creating a perfect blend of amazing vegetables and stunning flowers and herbs by walking away as winners of the first event of its kind in the village.

Bruce Lowe, who has worked his plot for the last eight years, impressed the judges with the quality of his prize winning vegetables and took the runners up award.
