ON A day where exactly 1,350 fans will make the steady trip east to the big smoke, Swindon Town Football Club has placed its record of thanks to supporters by penning an open letter to the Adver.

Richie Wellens’ side face newly promoted Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road this afternoon knowing a win could lift them back into the automatic promotion frame with seven matches completed.

Town will have the backing of more than 1,000 supporters in the away end for the third time this season, following equally popular trips to Exeter City and Cheltenham Town last month.

Appreciative of the support they are receiving away from SN1, the club sent a letter of thanks to the Adver on Friday morning to applaud the efforts of those that will make the trip to London this morning.

Fans that have attended Town’s four home games to date this season were also mentioned in the letter.

It read: “The support we have received so far this season has been incredible.

“Today, 1,350 of you are making the trip to the big city to support Richie Wellens and the team.

“The club would like to thank you for spending your Saturdays with us home and away.

“On the pitch, Richie has got the team playing entertaining and attacking football - and that same team is determined to win, home and away, for the fans.

“We know that the minimum expectation from fans is maximum effort, and that is all we can guarantee. But the fans in the stands make a difference and push us through when the going gets tough.

“That will be the same at Leyton Orient today and countless times throughout the season, but the feeling of togetherness and pride in the club at the moment is something everyone wants to continue.

“We want to continue to make the fans and the Town proud, playing football the right way, with passion and desire.

“So, thank you again for your continued support – let’s keep the feel-good factor going.”
