FIRST-ROUND action in the Knockout Cup took centre stage in the Swindon Sunday League at the weekend, with Greyhound grabbing the headlines following a 10-0 thrashing of Gorsehill Borough.

The game of the day was at Nationwide as the home side overcame Openwork United in a 7-6 thriller.

Andrew Goodchild netted a five-timer for Nationwide, with Sean Creeley and Ben Langley also on target. Matt Buckingham led the way for Openwork with a hat-trick, Callum Cormack struck twice and there was one for Jamie Tuck.

There was also a tense affair at Sevenfield United as they saw off Stratton Saints 5-4.

David Jones got a hat-trick for Sevenfields and Michael Gregory struck twice.

Sam Roberts’ hat-trick helped Highworth Town Sunday ease to an 8-2 success at home to Covingham United.

Harry Ayres, Christopher Ayres, Jonah Beer, Leon Morrison and Conor Wetherall also netted for Highworth as Covingham mustered replies through George Eustice and Kai Doble.

Swindon Saracens also won by an 8-2 scoreline as they easily overcame Swiss Chalet.

Jordan Benfield led the way with a hat-trick for Saracens, there were two goals for Sean Murnane and Tom Gelding, Michael Turner and Josh Meredith got one each.

Corey King got three of Uppercuts’ magnificent seven goals as they beat Smart Movers 7-1.

Jason Viola got another two for Uppercuts, whose lot was completed by singles from David Coleman and Joseph Finegan.

Dan Heath, Aaron Stubbs and Will Miller all struck braces as PSV Swindon saw off the threat of Swindon Rovers 6-2.

The Boundary House were 5-0 victors at Cricklade Park Rangers thanks to Kieran Butler’s double and a goal apiece from George Cook, Danny Hale and Mike Cox.

Atletico Marlborough triumphed 4-1 at Rudis as Jordan Ball, Jamie Conway, Luke Embling and Tom Mantock all netted for the victors.

Morgan Watts’ brace saw Wroughton Rovers edge to a 2-1 win at Ridgeway Rovers and Purton Redhouse triumphed 5-3 at Chiseldon Sunday.
