SWINDON Supermarine manager Lee Spalding was left feeling disappointed that his side could not capitalise on another strong showing after drawing 1-1 away at Taunton Town on Saturday.

Behind to an excellent first-half goal from their hosts, Marine rallied after half time and produced some more superb football, according to their boss.

The equaliser duly came from Stuart Fleetwood midway through the second half, and despite piling on the pressure late on, Marine were unable to come up with a winning goal that their manager felt they deserved.

Paying tribute to the goal that saw his side go behind, Spalding said: “I thought we started really well, but they scored a very good goal.

“It was a great ball across, an unbelievable touch and finish – it was one of those that if you’d seen it on Match of the Day, you’d have clapped.

“Defensively, I don’t think there was an awful lot we could have done to be honest.”

Taunton’s goalkeeper, Lloyd Irish was awarded man of the match by the home faithful, and that told onlookers everything they needed to know about the story of the game in Spalding’s opinion.

He said: “After that second-half performance, I’m probably slightly disappointed that we didn’t get the win in the end.

“In the second half, we were the much better side. I thought we showed great energy and their ‘keeper has made some great saves.

“He kept them in the game, and he was rightly given man of the match which sort of tells the story of the game really.”

After Saturday’s draw, Marine have extended their unbeaten run to three games in all competitions following two cup victories and the weekend’s stalemate.

Spalding said the quality of their recent performances has given him the belief that his side are due to record an emphatic victory in the coming weeks, as long as chances are taken when they are presented.

He said: “It’s been the story of our season really where we’ve been playing well enough to win games, but we’ve just got to be a bit more clinical in front of goal.

“When I look back at the games so far this season, we have been good enough and we have done enough to win games, but we’ve not quite managed it.

“Playing as we are, we’re going to win a lot more games than we lose.

“If we keep on playing as we are, at some point, we will beat someone by four or five, there’s no doubt about it.”
