BLUNSDON boss Ian Rosewell lauded his team for their performance in a 4-2 win over Ashton Keynes in the Swindon & District League Premier Division at the weekend.

Rosewell’s side put four past their opponents for the second week in a row as three second-half goals turned a 1-0 deficit into all three points on home turf.

After a shock Keynes goal put Blunsdon on the back foot in the opening stages, Rosewell felt falling behind was just what his players needed in order to return to their best in front of goal.

“We started really well and looked like we were going to score, but we just couldn’t hit the target with our chances,” said Rosewell.

“Ashton Keynes then scored against the run of play and went 1-0 up, but that might have been a good thing for us because it gave us a bit of a kick into gear that we needed to push on and be a bit more ruthless in front of goal.

“We levelled just before half-time, and that was a perfect time to score because it knocked the wind out of Ashton Keynes’ sails.

“In the second half, we came out even stronger and got another three goals.

“I thought we were tremendous and fully deserved the points.”

After lifting the Division One title last season, Blunsdon are now up to third as a result of their come-from-behind win, and Rosewell wants to see his side competing for the title once again following their undefeated start.

He said: “We’re hoping and expecting to do well this season. How well we actually do will come down to how much the players want it, but so far, I can’t complain.

“All in all, we’re very pleased with our start to the season and we’re looking forward to going from strength to strength.”

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Wroughton Rovers dropped points for the first time this season when drawing 2-2 with Nalgo Sports Club.

The Globe claimed a 5-2 success away at Wheatsheaf Stratton, while Highworth Town Development won the battle of the second strings as they bested Swindon Supermarine Development 3-0.

Paragon picked up their second victory of the season thanks to a comfortable 3-0 home win against The Regent.

Ruby Removals were emphatic 8-1 winners at home to Redhouse.

In Division One, joint leaders Swindon AFC and Cricklade Town Reserves both won their respective fixtures on Saturday.

Swindon AFC thrashed Marlborough Town Reserves 8-0, while Cricklade won 5-0 at home to FC Abbeymeads.

Lower Stratton followed up an excellent win last weekend with another this time around, defeating Bassett Bulldogs 4-1 away from home to go level on points with their opponents.
