CHARITABLE firefighters have raised £280.51 for a good cause by holding a car wash at Chippenham fire station.

The money from the cleaning event will go to the Fire Fighter's Charity.

Watch manager Gareth Challinor, who was one of the organisers, said: “The whole event went really well, with loads of support and some really complimentary comments from the public.

"We were delighted with the outcome, and a huge thanks goes to everyone who came along and made a donation.”

Crew members got stuck in on September 28 to raise money for the charity, which offers help to serving and retired personnel, their widows and widowers and young dependants by providing sheltered accommodation, recuperative facilities, rehabilitation and therapy.

It also gives financial support to those who need it.

Jill Fulker lives in Chippenham and is a registrar, based in the council building. She was one of dozens of motorists to have her car cleaned.

She said: “It was a lovely chance to meet out fire fighters really, we’d be lost without them. They were very cheerful and we had a top notch clean. My son brought his car down too and they got stuck in.”

She added: “The charity is a great charity to support so we were happy to take part.”
