A HOME-from-home style care home is to be built in Middlefields, Chippenham, catering for 48 people aged over 65, including those with dementia.

It will be run by the Christian charity Pilgrims’ Friend Society. Middlefields House will be built with its rooms arranged in four wings, so people living there can make friends more easily and it has a cosy feel.

Stephen Hammersley, chief executive of the charity, said: “The idea of the households of 12 rooms is to provide a homely environment, similar to a large family home that allows everyone to get to know and build friendships.

“The four households will come together for various activities, there will be communal rooms large enough but the thinking is that smaller households should avoid the feeling of being in a large institution. We provide a Christian environment for those who are sympathetic to the Christian faith.”

The building will include a hair salon and café open to the public. It is due to open in the spring of 2021, with building work due to start in January 2020.
