ALZHEIMERS Support’s Day Club in Warminster is a finalist in the Best Dementia Interior category of the prestigious Dementia Care Awards.

The day club opened last year after a major renovation of a run-down Victorian mill, The Old Silk Works.

Judges were impressed by the club’s carefully put-together interior, which blends spacious open-plan areas with more intimate spaces, all designed to create a relaxing, welcoming and practical day club interior.

Head of Day Care Grant Newton said: “We are thrilled that The Old Silk Works has been shortlisted for such a prestigious award."

"It was a long-cherished dream of ours to bring Day Care to Warminster and the club was full to capacity after just three months.

"Families have repeatedly told us about the positive changes in their relative’s mood and abilities and the interior of the club plays a big part in that.

“It’s great to see our ideas for the space, including the open plan kitchen and indoor garden area, work so well in practice.

"The club interior is welcoming and well-balanced and reflects the life and times of members.

"It is an honour that what we are doing here in Wiltshire is being recognised nationally.”

The Old Silk Works is the only day club to be shortlisted alongside four specialist care homes from across the UK. The winner will be announced in November.
