CROWDS gathered in Melksham, Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon on Sunday morning to pay their respects to those lost at war.

Remembrance services took place across the county where prayers were made and wreaths were laid.

In Melksham, a parade of ex-service men and women and serving members of HM Forces marched proudly from King Street Car Park to St Michael and All Angels Church for a minutes silence and an hour's service.

Both the young and old gathered for the wreath laying ceremony in Canon Square where the town mayor Jon Hubbard laid a wreath along with veterans and organisation such as St John’s Ambulance and Brownies club.

Karena McAlister of Kittyhawk Close in Bowerhill said: “Being quite new to Melksham this was the first Remembrance Service we have attended.

“It was a really moving service and it so nice to see how much the community takes pride in remembering those lost at war.

“It is lovely to see such a well supported Remembrance Day bringing people of all ages together to remember those who gave so much up for us.”

The town also held a small service and two minutes’ silence at the War Memorial on Monday.

In Trowbridge, poppies have been knitted over the past few weeks for an impressive cascade which was draped over St James' Church last week.

On Sunday morning the parade left the Market Place at 9.45am for a service at St James' Church. Crowds then gathered for wreath laying at the war memorial in the town park.

In Bradford on Avon, a service was held at Holy Trinity Church before a procession to the War Memorial in Westbury Gardens.

A minute's silence was held and a wreath laying also followed.
