HIGHWORTH Town could only earn a point from their away game against Mangotsfield in Division One of the Southern League on Saturday.

Jeff Roberts’ side were dealt a major blow before kick-off, though, when captain Ryan Morgan pulled up with an injury during the warm-up.

Morgan’s absence meant the Worthians adapted their back four to suit, with Dan Comer moving to right back while Will Davidson and Leon Morrison sat in the middle with Jacob Davidge called in to play on the left.

Highworth started the game brightly, but ultimately their flurry of chances midway through the opening half paid no dividends as both teams returned to their respective changing rooms having failed to score.

The second half proved a scrappy affair, though Highworth were denied late by a great save from the home ‘keeper.

Worthians’ goalless draw means they sit 10th in the league with 18 points secured from their first 13 fixtures.

Roberts’ men will have to recover quickly from the weekend’s draw.

On Wednesday, they host the struggling AFC Totton at the Save On Tyres stadium before Saturday sees Devon outfit Barnstaple visit.

The club’s run of back-to-back home fixtures concludes on December 7 when Thatcham provide the opposition.
