HIGHWORTH Town boss Jeff Roberts has sympathy for AFC Totton in their current position but says that won’t stop him sending his team out to take all three points in their Southern League Division One South clash tonight.

The Worthians’ visitors are second bottom in the table, having won just twice from their dozen league games so far.

Highworth, on the other hand, are three games unbeaten in mid-table and head into the clash full of confidence from their last home match when they comfortably beat Moneyfields 5-1.

With the bottom two teams to play over the next four days, Roberts has targeted maximum points for his side ahead of a difficult fixture against Thatcham Town a week on Saturday.

Roberts said: “Totton are in a false position. Last season they had some good strikers – but it is always hard when you’re down there to get those wins and a bit of confidence back.

“It is a game that we’re looking to win, and with Barnstaple coming up on Saturday, we’re looking to pick up six points.

“With the point that we picked up at Mangotsfield last weekend, that puts us in a really good position.

“Tonight is an important game, though. We’ve got to go about our jobs properly and our pitch – which is looking good at the moment – will help us do that.”

The situation at the Save on Tyres Stadium is not all rosy, however.

Captain Ryan Morgan is out through injury and Roberts will be forced to shuffle his pack once again after a brief period of calm.

Consistency in team selection and results go hand-in-hand, according to Roberts, and the Worthians manager has been glad to surprise people once again with results when his fully fit squad has been at his disposal.

Roberts said: “We’re unbeaten in three now and we’ve picked up five points.

“I think a lot of people thought we would struggle this year with a lot of young guys and a few older heads in the squad.

“We’re not doing badly, it’s just about getting finding that consistency, but that’s difficult when you can’t keep the same squad together.

“Ryan Morgan pulled out on Saturday with an ankle injury and then we had to change our back four to solve that issue.

“He’ll miss the Totton game and maybe Saturday’s game too in order to give his ankle a bit of a rest.”
