WINGER Lloyd Isgrove has returned to full-time training after overcoming a knee injury he picked up at Crawley in late October.

Isgrove, 26, tore his medial collateral ligament with only half-an-hour played in Town’s four-goal win against the Red Devils – a game where top goalscorer Eoin Doyle notched a remarkable hat-trick.

Though the supporters’ favourite is yet to reach full match fitness, Richie Wellens confirmed the Southampton academy product will be involved in Saturday’s squad when Swindon visit Grimsby in League Two.

Isgrove could’ve featured in tonight’s Wiltshire Senior Cup tie at Westbury.

However, Wellens was understandably keen to avoid unnecessary injury in a game that the Town boss will not attend as he instead heads to Prenton Park for Tranmere’s Leasing.com Trophy second round tie against Manchester United U21s.

Wellens said: “Lloyd Isgrove is back, he has trained and was going to play at Westbury (in the Wiltshire Senior Cup) tonight but we’re not sure about the surface.

“We didn’t want to put him at any risk either. He’ll be fit and in the squad for Saturday.

“He’s been out for six weeks, but he is still one of the highest goal creators in the league. That speaks volumes in itself.

“He’s our only out and out winger, he stretches the pitch out for us and he can give our midfielders that bit more space.

“He’s a very good player at this level, we’re happy to have him back.”

Isgrove’s welcome addition to Saturday’s squad means Town’s attacking players must now be prepared to fight to retain their starting shirt.

However, a continuation of positive results will make it hard for Wellens to disrupt a winning formula.

Admittedly, though, the 39-year-old’s options from the bench will improve substantially when Isgrove is named on the team sheet in addition to Keshi Anderson’s impending return.

Wellens added: “Now we’ve got him back, it gives us the option to go back to 4-4-2.

“My options from the bench in terms of changing shape haven’t been great. Keshi (Anderson) isn’t far behind, so we will soon have those options available to us to change shape.”
