HIGHWORTH Town were unable to become the first team to topple Thatcham Town in Southern League Division One South this season on Saturday as they fell to a 1-0 defeat at home.
The Worthians produced a sterling effort against their high-flying opponents, who have now dropped just six points from 15 unbeaten league games this term.
Jeff Roberts’ home side entered the game in decent form themselves following an unbeaten league run throughout November, which saw them pick up eight points from four games in the month.
However, they were not quite able to extend that sequence into December as George Jeacock’s strike after half-an-hour for Thatcham proved to be the difference between the two teams in the end.
Despite the defeat, Highworth remain comfortably placed in the league table as they sit in eighth place on 21 points from 15 fixtures, with six wins to their name.
