A Chippenham sixth former has died.
Pupils at Abbeyfield School were told earlier today of the Year 12 boy's unexpected death but no further details have yet been given.
Co-headteachers of the school Ralph Plummer and Nick Norgrove said in a press statement: "We are all saddened by the death of one of our pupils and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very sad time.
"We are providing support and counselling to our pupils and staff and we would request you respect the privacy of the school community at this time."
Parents of pupils in the school's sixth form were sent a letter which also said: "We are all affected by the death, but we are trying, for the young people’s sake, to keep the school as normal as possible over the coming days, whilst allowing the pupils opportunities to talk if they want. Trained staff from the Critical Incident Team at the local authority are helping to support us through this difficult time."
A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: “At 6.35pm yesterday (10/12) we were called to the sudden death of a 17-year-old boy at an address in Market Place, Chippenham.
“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and our thoughts are with the boy’s family at this very sad time.
“A file will now be prepared for HM Coroner.”
