DIVISION ONE

There was a minutes silence held before every match this week in The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Trowbridge and District Football League in memory of Mr Frank Toomer who passed away recently. Mr Toomer will be sorely missed and spent 46 years on the TDFL committee providing great support and friendship along the way.

The top match in The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division One saw second place Devizes Town Reserves close the gap on leaders Marshfield by narrowly beating fellow challengers Heytesbury 1 – 0. An Angus Webster strike in the very first minute of the game proved to be enough to separate the teams in an excellent game of football where few chances were created but both teams worked their socks off. Sam Spratt in the Heytesbury goal pulled off a great save after 16 minutes to deny another Devizes goal and Heytesbury best chance to level the game came after 23 minutes when Charlie Waylen hit the post after good work from Jake Wright.

Calne Town Reserves and Hilperton United shared the points in their Division One Encounter drawing 1 – 1. Jordan Tarrant scored for Calne with Jake Samuel replying for Hilperton. The points keep Hilperton in 7th place and Calne in 9th in Division One..

Freshford United must have thought they were heading to their third league victory on the spin as they entered the final minute of their match at Melksham Town ‘A’. Leading 1 – 0 through a first minute effort from Haydon Bailey, Sam Alford popped up and equalised for Melksham to earn his team a point which lifted them off the foot of the table.

DIVISION TWO

Westbury United Reserves avenged a 5 – 0 defeat by Staverton earlier in the season by ending their 100% record and knocking them off the top of The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division Two, winning 5 – 2 with an excellent performance. On a blustery day Westbury got off to a perfect start going 2 – 0 ahead in the first 8 minutes with a goal from a free kick and then taking advantage of a mix up in the Staverton defence. It got better for Westbury on the 20 minute mark when they increased their lead with a good strike on the counter attack and things went from bad to worse for Staverton when they conceded an own goal on 38 minutes. Staverton gave themselves a spark of hope with a goal back just before the break and after a good spell of pressure reduced the arrears further on the hour mark with a goal from a corner. With 20 minutes remaining Westbury ended any hopes of a Staverton comeback with a 5th goal following an unfortunate miskick from the Staverton Keeper. Marc Lanfear led the way with a hat-trick for Westbury with Ollie Dew also on the scoresheet. Kye Teague and Alex Shaw replied for Staverton.

KEW PR FC are the new leaders of The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division Two, and they now hold the only 100% record in The Trowbridge and District League with their 9th win out of 9 after an 8 – 0 win against Dilton Marsh Wanderers. Dilton kept KEW at bay until the 25th minute when Alfie Little opened the scoring and Nick Ross added the second 4 minutes later. Little grabbed his second on 38 minutes and Ross followed suit making it 4 – 0 just before the break. Ashley Poms made it 5 ten minutes into the second half and Nick Ross completed his hat-trick on the hour mark. Five minutes later Dean Ranger made it 7 and Mark Maguire helped himself to number 8 in the last minute to put KEW PR at the summit of Division Two.

Trowbridge Town Reserves find themselves in 7th place in The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Division Two but they closed the gap to 6th placed Aces FC to 3 points when they beat them 3 – 1 this weekend. Two goals for Jamie Strevens and one from Matt Newbury saw Trowbridge take the spoils. Dan Hatcher scored for Aces.

Seend United bounced back from last week’s defeat against Calne Eagles with an 8 – 1 victory over The Stiffs. Matt Purdy and Kyle Palmer will be competing for the match ball as they both scored a hat-trick. Ben Winn and Tom Jones each scored one each to make up the eight. George Hartrey scored The Stiffs consolation from the penalty spot.

The game between Calne Eagles and Barford Hornets was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

WILTSHIRE JUNIOR CUP THIRD ROUND

A successful weekend for The Trowbridge Windows and Conservatories sponsored Trowbridge and District Football League with two teams progressing into the Quarter Final stage.

Division One team Three Daggers had an excellent 3 – 2 win over Swindon and District Premier League leaders The Globe FC. James Stone, Drew Adams and Jono Hogarth scored the goals that saw Daggers into the last eight.

Warminster United ran out convincing 4 – 0 winners over Salisbury side D I United. Brendan Hind with a brace and Josh Gardener and Owen Bartley with one each saw The Trowbridge and District side through.

Trowbridge and District side Semington Magpies narrowly lost in their third round tie losing 3 – 1 on penalties against Alderbury FC. The score was 1 – 1 after extra time with Tony McElhone scoring in the 70th minute with a great strike for Magpies.
