Steven Benda – 4.5

Hostile home crowd may have got to him initially – kicking was off especially. Not great positioning for first goal. One to forget.

Rob Hunt – 5.5

Allowed Sheehan to run free into the box ahead of opening goal. Couple of moments of good interlinking play, but nothing spectacular.

Tom Broadbent – 4.5

Attracted the manager’s attention for all the wrong reasons in the first half. Settled in the second and applied himself well to Town’s long ball tactic.

Rarmani Edmonds-Green – 5

Despite his small size, he played a physical game at times and was spring heeled to win headers. Some mis-placed passes, though improved as game went on.

Paul Caddis – 6

His experience certainly helped Town keep hopes of scoring alive in the later moments. Defended well despite his height disadvantage.

Anthony Grant – 6

Booked early, which meant Grant’s usual no-nonsense approach had to be toned down a touch. Worked hard in midfield but for little reward.

Danny Rose – 6

Showed great character to almost immediately recover from a thunderous ball to the face. Subbed in the second half for youngster McGilp.

Lloyd Isgrove – 5

Surface didn’t suit his style of play at all and was subbed with only an hour played as a result. One shot went wide because of a bobble in the pitch.

Diallang Jaiyesimi – 5.5

Made a couple of eye-catching runs. But any creative spark he usually possesses went given the bobbly nature of the playing surface. A learning curve.

Kaiyne Woolery – 5

Newport setup well to block out any sprinting runs into King’s penalty area. Occasionally broke free, but end product wasn’t always there.

Jerry Yates – 5

Denied any genuine sight on goal as long balls forward and scraps in the penalty area generated both teams’ best chances. In better conditions, will enjoy more of the ball.

SUBS:

Scott Twine – 5.5

Little impact on a game, but will learn from the unique experience.

Cameron McGilp – N/R

Came on with only nine minutes of play remaining.
