MALMESBURY racer Louis Harvey took third in the opening round of the 2020 Shenington Kart Clubs winter series on Sunday.

In a field of 23 young drivers, Harvey showed his class throughout practice and the heats, but the 15-year-old just fell short in Sunday’s finale.

Teammate Ben Higgins won the event for his maiden TKM success with fellow Wiltshire driver Dominic Kilminster scooping the silver medal.

The Malmesbury teenager started heat one way down the grid in 13th, however, some precision driving in the first lap saw Harvey climb straight up to third place.

By the second lap, Harvey was in second and closing in on teammate Higgins.

The pair worked together and pulled out an eight second gap on the field with Harvey taking the lead on the second to last lap.

The Malmesbury teenager finished the first heat at the front as well as setting the fastest lap of the race.

Harvey started heat two in 12th before repeating much of the action from the first heat.

The 15-year-old battled through much traffic before crossing the line second behind Kilmister.

The results from the heats placed Harvey on pole for the final - a perfect starting position as he hunted a first win of the season.

Harvey, Higgins and Kilmister all took turns to control the lead throughout a thrilling race, though it was Higgins that finally took the chequered flag.
